HPC Training Series - Course 23 "Using C# in HPC applications"

→ Europe/Athens
Description

EuroCC@Greece announces the 23rd Course of HPC Training Series with the subject "Using C# in HPC applications".

Date: October 29th, 2026, at 11:00 EET

Location: Online via Zoom

Presentation Language: Greek

Audience: This course is ideal for HPC Engineers and Academic Researchers.

Course Description:

This webinar will introduce tools to parallelize applications in the Object Oriented language C#. The webinar will comprise two parts, part 1 and 2. Part 1 will focus on CPU parallelism in C# with MPI & TPL; it will cover the installation of necessary software, a brief introduction into C#, and the serial code to be parallelized. Part 2 will focus on GPU parallelism in C#; it will introduce tools to write General Purpose GPU programs in the C# language, the implementation of setup of simple kernels and memory management, and examples that showcase more advanced topics, such as thread synchronization / thread groups, and reductions.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Use Task Parallel Library (TPL) to parallelize C# code for multicore CPUs.

  • Use MPI to parallelize C# code for networked computers.

  • Understand the difference between shared and distributed memory systems and when to use each.

  • Understand basic threading and memory management of GPU computing.

  • Use ILGPU to parallelize C# code.

Prerequisites: Basic programming knowledge in C#, Java, C or C++.

Instructors’ Short Bios:

  • Dr. Serafeim Bakalakos is a researcher at the Institute of Structural Analysis and Antiseismic Research (ISAAR) of the National Technical University of Athens. He graduated from the School of Civil Engineering (NTUA) in 2015 and completed his MSc in Analysis and Design of Structures (NTUA) in 2017. In 2022 he was awarded his Ph.D. on HPC methods for the solution of crack propagation and material design problems using the extended FE method (XFEM). Since then, he has been conducting research in NTUA and working as adjunct professor at the School of Civil Engineering of University of Thessaly.

  • Dr. Dimitris Theodoropoulos is an affiliated senior researcher at the Institute of Communication and Computation Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and the Microprocessor and Hardware Laboratory (MHL) at the Technical University of Crete, Greece. In 2003 and 2005 he obtained his Diploma (5-year degree) and M.Sc degree respectively from the Electronic and Computer Engineering department at the Technical University of Crete, Greece. In 2007, he joined the Computer Engineering department of the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, and in 2011 he was awarded his Ph.D. Between 2011-2019, he collaborated with the Telecommunication Systems Research Institute at the Technical University of Crete, Greece, and the Computer Architecture and VLSI Systems group at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) in Crete, Greece.
